Marc Van de Velde

Marc Van de Velde became MD at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. Following his residency and his PhD degree (research on metabolic support of the stunned myocardium), he started as a consultant in the University Hospitals Leuven and is now Full Professor of Anesthesia. Until 2010 he was clinical director of obstetric anesthesia. Since November 2010, he is Head of the Department and Full Professor at the KULeuven. He has given >500 invited lectures, has published >150 articles and has co-authored several book chapters. He is editor of Maternal Critical Care (CUP) published in 2013 and he is editor of ”Oxford textbook of Obstetric anesthesia” (OUP) published in 2016. He is member of the OAA Committee since May 2017 and he has 15 years+ experience in managing anesthesia societies as well as in organizing international scientific meetings. His primary clinical interest focuses on obstetric anesthesia and anesthesia for children and adults with congenital heart disease undergoing non cardiac surgery. Most of his current research focuses on obstetric anesthesia.
