Damien Hughes graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1991. After completing anaesthesia training in the Northern Ireland deanery he was appointed to a consultant post at the Ulster Hospital in 2001, where he is currently the lead for obstetric anaesthesia. He is the current chair of the NI Obstetric Anaesthesia Network (NIOAN) and is the anaesthesia reviewer for the NI maternal deaths panel. Outside obstetrics his subspeciality interests are regional anaesthesia and acute pain management. Outside work his interests are running and all things Italian. He was elected to the OAA executive committee in June 2021.
